Childhood immunizations are a critical part of keeping children healthy and protected from a range of serious, preventable diseases. Vaccines help the body develop immunity to diseases like measles, mumps, rubella, whooping cough, polio and many others, without causing the illness itself. Pediatricians follow a recommended vaccination schedule, which outlines the specific vaccines children should receive at different ages, starting from birth through adolescence. These vaccines are safe and thoroughly tested for both effectiveness and safety before being approved for use. By vaccinating children on time, we not only protect them from potentially life-threatening diseases but also contribute to the broader community's health by reducing the spread of infections, especially to those who may be vulnerable, such as infants and individuals with weakened immune systems.

It’s important for parents to work with their pediatrician to stay up-to-date on the immunization schedule and address any concerns they may have about vaccines. Most side effects are mild and temporary, such as soreness at the injection site or a low-grade fever. Serious side effects are extremely rare. Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to ensure a child's health and well-being, and by keeping immunizations up to date, we can protect not only individual children but also public health as a whole.

Independence and Lee’s Summit Vaccination Policy

Independence and Lee’s Summit Pediatrics firmly believes in the effectiveness of vaccines to prevent serious illness and to save lives.  We strongly recommend all patients should be vaccinated.  Please be advised that delaying or “breaking up the vaccines” to give them at staggered times or one or two at a time goes against expert recommendations and our medical advice as providers here at Independence and Lee’s Summit Pediatrics.

To receive vaccinations at our practice, we must have a copy of your child’s vaccination records if they were given at another provider’s office.  We are unable to provide immunizations without these records.

We acknowledge and honor your rights as parents/guardians to make all healthcare decisions for your child.  We will not force you to vaccinate your child against your wishes.  If you choose to refuse vaccination, it is the policy of Independence and Lee’s Summit Pediatrics to require a signed Vaccination Policy Form as well as an exemption waiver from the Health Department in the state of your residence.  If you cannot comply with this policy, we respectfully ask that you find a healthcare provider more apt to meet your preferences.
