ADHD or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder is a common neurodevelopmental disorder that affects children and can continue into adolescence and adulthood.  Children with ADHD may struggle with attention, impulse control and hyperactivity, often making it challenging to focus in school, follow instructions and complete tasks.

ADHD is diagnosed based on a thorough evaluation by a healthcare professional, which may include observations, interviews with parents and teachers and questionnaires.  It is important to note that not all children who struggle with focus or behavior problems have ADHD.  The symptoms must be persistent, present in multiple settings (like home and school), and significantly impact the child’s functioning to meet the criteria for diagnosis.

With early diagnosis and appropriate interventions, many children with ADHD can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.  It is crucial for parents and caregivers to work closely with healthcare providers to develop a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to the individual needs of the child.
